Designing a Game by Game Space Type

Designing a Game By Game Space Type

In groups we had to design a game using a 'game space type' in which ours was split screen. Each group is to produce designs for a game based around one of t he types of game-space. The Game space type should be a feature of the games mechanics.

My roll in the group is to provide visuals for the game. Other peoples rolls consists of research, and the designing of different powerups.

this is the art work I came up with for the game. The group said the art style I go with is totally up to me, so I've gone for the 1990's pix elated look as I think it fits well with the iso-metrik look, and it makes it a lot easier to create. To achieve the pixel effect in photoshop I just had to draw everything as I normally would at a high res, then when I was finished go to Image, Image Size and then change the pixel size to around 500 as the original was 4000 wide, but I had to make sure I chose from the drop down 'Nearest Neighbor (presserve hard edges)'. Once I had done this I could rescale to the original size of 4000 wide but make sure I enabled Nearest Neibor again to stop the pixel's from going blurry.

How We Negotiate the Meaning of Images

I think the reason for not naming film superman was because in this generation the word superman would be considered, nerdy and lame and you think of a flying man wearing blue tights. But, Man of Steel instantly sounds stronger and more interesting and appeals to newer generations that haven't paid much interest in superman.

My Context

Games,

Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Pokemon, Lord of the Rings, Need For Speed Underground 2,  Diablo 2, Stronghold, Stronghold Crusader, Quake 3 Arena, Quake 3 Team Arena, Tekken, Tekken Tag Tournement, The Settlers, Baulders Gate Dark Alliance, Prince of Persia, Time Crysis, GTA San Andreas, Assassins Creed, Bioshock, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Rome 2 Total War, Diablo 3, Fear, Battlefield 4,

I remember crash bandicoot being the first game I ever played which I had on playstation 1. It was given to me along with the console by my uncle (John Roberts) who at the time was working with Sony on the the game. I also recieved Spyro from him as well. I also played a lot of Tekken games and also the 1st Time Crysis game which I had a plug in gun controller for. I soon moved to cornwall when I was about 6/ 7 and recieved a Playstation 2 along with a game called Baulders Gate Dark Alliance. This was  the first kind of RPG fantasy game I had played and I absolutely loved this game, although I had a knack while i was a kid of scratching my games and leaving them lying around and this game sadly stopped working. They did go on to release a sequel though which I never played. Next on the PS2 would be the lord of the rings trilogy. Now usually games based on films usually suck, but I think this one was the only game I've actually enjoyed that was based on a film. I think it was because it had the same events that took place in the game, also the same characters. Also there were some backstorys and things that wasnt included in the film, but were in the game. Around this time as well I played a lot of GTA San Andreas.

Jumping a head a little too 2005 a game called fear was released. It was a first person shooter horror game, which to date is still my favorite horror game. At the time I think I was about 11 at this game gave me nightmares on my first play....

This was also a time when I started to see the light in pc gaming and started to ditch the console. Me and Dad started getting really involved in buying new pc parts to try and make games run better, we were constantly selling parts from the pc and buying better ones, fitting them and enjoying running the games with slightly more FPS, it was until just over a year ago where we sat down and actually built a gaming rig scratch me and him, even now we still sell bits from it and buy new ones.

This day and age I tend to stick to first person shooters being my top game choice, I'm really into the Battlefield franchise and recently picked up Battlefield 4. I play a few strategy games like Rome 2, what pc gamer doesnt enjoy strategy? I'm not a big fan of the MMO's which is weird concidering I want to get into concept art, I think I just enojoy creating the worlds and setting for them. But MMO's are one of those kind of games I would like to get into but eveytime I try they just seem boring to me. The games I'm currently playing consist of Battlefield 4, Rome 2 Total War, Diablo 3.

Joy Division - Transmission 1979

Design in 1979

Renault 6 L

The front seat was, like the rear, one long bench running the width of the car like a cut-price vinyl couch from a budget furniture warehouse in Gdansk. The gear stick was accordingly situated in the middle of the dashboard and resembled the handle  from a lady's umbrella.

The Renault 6 is a family car made in the late 1960's. It was made to compete with the Citroen Ami 6 and the Citroen Dyane; it had a few similar things to these cars, for example it had a similar dashboard mounted gear lever.

Film

Also the award winning sci-fi horror film, Alien was released in 1979. H.R.Giger was the artist that designed the fantastic setting for the film.

H.R.Giger
Hans Rudolf Giger is a swiss surrealist painter, sculpter, and set designer. He was part of the special effects team that won an academy award for best achievement for visual effects for their design work on the film Alien.

Giger was born in Chur, Graubunden, switzerland, the son of a chemist. HE spoke of a father who viewed art as a 'breadless profession' and strongly encouraged his son to enter into pharmaceutics. Despite this, in 1962, he moved to zurich, where he studied architecture and industrial design at the school of applied arts.

Giger's style and thematic execution have been influential. His design for the Alien was inspired by his painting 'Necronom' and earned him an oscar in 1980. Giger got his start with small ink drawings before progressing to oil paintings. For most of his career, Giger has worked predominantly in airbrush, creating monochromatic canvasses depicting surreal, nightmarish dreamscapes.
